Step 3: Choose Your Message
Find a quote or make your own brief statement that is no longer than 10 words.
Step 4: Sketch
Using an entire sheet of your sketchbook, draw your design idea with attention to detail on exactly what your typography will look like and how it will align with your illustration.
Your assignment is to photograph a person or an object or use your own illustration as the central graphic. Then use hand lettering or creative typography (like examples provided) to write a powerful quote or statistic around that object.
OR: photograph one word from your quote out of objects and align the rest of typography from the quote creatively around that word.
THE BEST OF THESE POSTERS WILL BE PRINTED 24x36 inches and DISPLAYED ON CAMPUS WHEN STUDENTS ARE BROUGHT BACK ON CAMPUS.
Possible quote topics-
Perseverance is the key to success
Be open minded
The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step
Don't fear to dream.
Be the change you want to see in the world.
Actions speak louder than words.
Stand up for what is right.
Don't ever give up.
Try juxtaposition. What happens when you place two unlikely things next to each other? What new message does it create?
Step 5: Design the poster using Adobe Creative Cloud
Make sure your file is 12 inches wide by 18 inches tall. Use illustrator to layout the type and create the illustration. If you need to use photoshop for your central graphic, make sure you have that file set to the same dimensions AND set the RESOLUTION TO 300 ppi.
